September 2011: Living together is found in doing it together!

DPI Europe Motionto the fourth Conference of States Parties,

New York, 7 to 9 September 2011

DPI Europe welcomes the Note by the Secretariat “Background Paper for Roundtable Two on Participation in Political and Civil Life”

DPI Europe is proud to be a member of the family that planted the motto “Nothing about us without us” 30 years ago in world culture; however, we still have further to go to reach our vision.

What does this motto actually means in terms of definition, education and training programs? In terms of procedures and accountability? How do we evaluate? Does this motto have the same meaning of “participation” etc …

As protagonist, DPI feels that it is responsible for the “ethical guardianship” of this motto and wants to assure that it is not only a “fashionable expression” to justify funds but that it is used and respected for its spirit and origin.People with disabilities must participate at all stages of the processes launched and be encouraged to contribute to the building of an inclusive society that we, as human beings, need to achieve.

DPI Europe believes that participation is a process through which we, as disabled people, are able to influence and determine our own life solutions as professionals and individuals and be the authors and the creators of our lives and our communities.
